Mayfair, London W1, is home to a museum that joins two of the biggest names in music. Handel Hendrix House, on Brook Street, looks after the adjoining buildings where George Frideric Handel and Jimi Hendrix each lived, a couple of centuries apart, as Secret London reports.
Two musicians, one address
Handel lived at 25 Brook Street in the early to mid-1700s. Hendrix lived in a flat at number 23 in the 1960s. The museum says it "cares for and presents to the public the homes of two of the greatest musicians ever to have lived in London." It presents the two buildings "as an evolving celebration of Handel and Hendrix’s lives, sharing their music, their stories and [the museum's] collections as a source of learning, enjoyment and inspiration for all."
Visitors can explore the spaces where both men lived, and the museum features careful restorations of their homes. Secret London notes that the two had very different living situations.
What to expect
- Exhibitions and immersive displays.
- Live music inside the musicians' respective residences.
- The Jimi Sessions, with live performances of Hendrix's music and other songs from that era.
- Handel’s Salon, for exploring Handel's work and legacy.
- Special activities, music lessons, expert talks and jam sessions for musicians.
The museum marks the two musicians by looking into their pasts and lives, and by continuing to fill the buildings with music.
