A new Beatles attraction is taking shape at 3 Savile Row in Mayfair, London W1, and more details of what visitors can expect have now emerged, MusicRadar reports.
What is planned
The attraction will open next year and is to be called simply 'The Beatles at 3 Savile Row'. According to MusicRadar, it will feature:
- Seven floors of never-seen-before material from Apple's archives
- Rotating exhibitions
- A fan store
- A recreation of the original studio where Let It Be was recorded
Visitors will also be able to follow in the band's footsteps on the exact rooftop where they played their final gig on 30 January 1969.
The rooftop
Tom Greene, current CEO of Apple Corps, said in a statement: "Every single day, fans are taking pictures of the outside of 3 Savile Row, but next year they can go in and explore all seven floors of the iconic building, including the rooftop where even the railings remain the same from that famous day in 1969."
An exact opening date for the museum has yet to be confirmed.
Apple Corps moves back
The attraction comes as Apple Corps returns to Savile Row. MusicRadar reports that the company is putting its current headquarters, 27 Ovington Square in Knightsbridge, up for sale through the estate agents Noble Harris.
The agents describe it as "a chance to acquire a property with an extraordinary story". It is a Grade II listed Victorian townhouse over six floors, with the third and fourth floors for residential use. It has 12 rooms, including six bedrooms, and approval for both office and residential use.
MusicRadar notes that properties on Ovington Square regularly sell for between £5 million and £7 million, and suggests the Beatles connection could push the eventual price into eight figures. That is the publication's speculation rather than a quoted price. Noble Harris said only: "Our clients wish to pass the legacy of the property to the right candidate."
