A well-known pub in Mayfair is going back to its original name. The Kings Arms in Shepherd Market will reopen as the Three Jolly Butchers after a refurbishment, London Now reports, reclaiming the name it held in the 1740s.
What is happening
The 18th-century pub is owned by Greene King. It will close temporarily to the public on 4 May while the works take place, and the upgraded venue is set to reopen the following month.
Greene King is taking care to celebrate the pub's "village pub" feel and "long history", and to preserve its original features. The pub is expected to keep its cosy and intimate character. It is described as an "oasis within an oasis that is Shepherd Market".
What changes
The venue will have "extensive improvements" inside and out. The aim is to offer a "traditional pub atmosphere" alongside "modern-day comforts".
- A premium food and drinks range intended to suit all occasions, from a quick drink to a leisurely lunch or a special meal out.
- Breakfast, which the pub will now serve for the first time.
- An expanded events calendar, with plans for weekly quizzes and walking tours.
Booking
Diners and drinkers who want to pre-book can do so through the Greene King app. The pub's website carries further information about reopening times.
Exact reopening dates were not given beyond "the following month", so it is worth checking the website before planning a visit to this corner of Mayfair.
