The Shepherd Mayfair, a new hotel at the gateway to Shepherd Market in Mayfair, London W1, has shared its first look at the rooms ahead of opening to guests in summer 2026, Luxurious Magazine reports.

The rooms

The hotel will have 82 rooms and suites across six floors, with rates starting from £500 per night. It spans 33,600 square feet and is part of the Elegant Hotel Collection. Accommodation runs from compact Standard and Superior Rooms, suited to shorter stays and solo travellers, to the larger Shepherd Suites and Mayfair Suites.

Each room has been individually configured to respect the building's original townhouse proportions. Many have window seats overlooking Shepherd Market and the streets of Mayfair.

Design details

The interiors are by Timothy Shepherd of Shepherd&, who previously served as Managing Director at Buckley Grey Yeoman ID. The scheme combines warm timber finishes and light tonal palettes with curved upholstery, blue detailing and traditional red velvet curtains. There are subtle references to British craftsmanship traditions, while circulation areas take a darker, more atmospheric tone.

Practicality is central to the design:

  • Desks convert to dressing tables.
  • Console tables transform into chessboards.
  • Each workspace has a classic banker's lamp and a discreet integrated safe.
  • Lighting is concealed to create a relaxed atmosphere.

Bathrooms have marble finishes and Floris amenities in bespoke bottles made exclusively for the hotel. Selected rooms have separate baths and seating areas.

Art and local history

Corridors display photographs by British artist Jack English, many shown publicly for the first time, alongside works by fine art photographer George McLeod, whose practice reinterprets classical imagery through contemporary perspectives.

The hotel occupies a rare freehold site and draws architectural inspiration from Mayfair's eighteenth and early nineteenth-century mansions. Storytelling details balance that historic refinement with the character of Shepherd Market. They include references to local figures such as Desmond Sautter, Lord Sandwich and Tiddy Doll, plus discreet Braille and Morse code elements that acknowledge the area's wartime intelligence history and the nearby Down Street station.

Who is behind it

Shepherd& has studios in London's Soho and Paris's 16th Arrondissement. It was founded by four creatives with experience in hospitality and residential design. The Elegant Hotel Collection is a luxury soft brand with hubs in London, Newark, Athens, Miami, Hong Kong and Latin America.
